Soul Story

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10

I had been meditating on the first part of Psalm 46:10 and working on a new instrumental album titled Be Still. But on this particular night, it wasn't “Be still” that gripped me.

It was what came after … I am God.

I grabbed my charcoal, put on worship and a sermon, and spent the next four hours meditating and drawing. It began with little more than the faint outline of a face. Before I had really even begun, I wrote a prayer on the page: Show me Your glory.

I never know exactly where a piece will go or how it will land. I simply begin and allow the story to unfold. Four hours later, I stepped back and looked at what had emerged.

I Am God.

From the Artist

This piece speaks to me in layers. I see Jesus seeking His Father, in stillness - His gaze fixed upward, waiting, watching, listening. I see the embodiment of Psalm 46:10.

But there is another layer that gave this piece its name:

I am God.

Jesus is God. I cannot look at this piece without seeing Him as God.

Then there is identity. I paired this piece with my song King, from the album RISE. As I listened to the song while looking at His eyes, it rocked me. Imagine God the Father looking into the eyes of His Son and speaking identity over Him: “Never forget who You are.”

Now let those words turn toward you.

Be still. Remember who He is. Look to the Father. Look to Jesus. Let Him remind you who you are.
