I Once Was Blind
This is the story behind the song, “For You.”
I am almost at a loss for words, yet I know this is the Lord’s will. I have to share this story.
Help me, Holy Spirit. This is YOUR story.
Let’s start in Alabama.
I spent ten days with my family this month. My Mom had surgery, and I wanted/needed to be there for her and with her.
There are always lessons to learn in Bama. There are layers that are worthy of sharing, but for the sake of focus, time, and space, I will stick to the song in this post.
It typically takes me a couple of days to reacclimate when I have been away on a “caregiving mission.”
When I returned home to Florida, I spent some quiet time reflecting and praying.
I was raised Catholic and have always appreciated Holy Communion, but I have had very significant seasons in my life when I took daily communion at home … and it changes me … every time.
I have been in that season for a little while. I was excited to get back to my morning routine with communion after being away for so long. My first morning back in Florida was deep and sweet. I took communion, then I grabbed my pen and journal … and in ten minutes, a song was written.
“FOR YOU”
My experience with songwriting has been pretty consistent. When the inspiration comes, the words flow quickly. The song may appear in minutes, but a lifetime of lessons contributes to that moment.
After writing this song though, something supernatural happened.
For starters …
I do not use that word “supernatural” lightly.
But I call it what it is. What happened to me immediately after I wrote this song was supernatural. It is unexplainable in the natural and fully explainable in the spirit, the SUPERnatural.
I took communion, I wrote a song, and I was meditating on the words and message. I always want to live it before I give it. It is my mandate from heaven for everything I say, do, teach, write, and release.
It is important to note here that the initial version of this song was written in First Person, as though Jesus Himself was speaking and singing this over me.
My eyes were closed as I prayed.
When I opened my eyes and looked around, I could not fully see out of my left eye. Something had happened. There was literally a BLIND SPOT in my natural vision. I stood up and walked around, and everything I looked at had a “missing piece,” a portion that was not visible through my left eye.
It actually got progressively worse over the next several minutes, to the point that I considered a trip to the ER (which, if you know me … you know … that is not something I EVER consider).
I called a local emergency ophthalmologist and was on hold … when I got a revelation …
THIS IS ABOUT WHAT HE DID FOR ME.
I had just written a song about how Jesus did it FOR ME, He died FOR ME, He took sin and sickness in His Body … FOR ME.
I hung up the phone, laid my hand on my eye, and I began to pray. I received and believed the very truth I had just participated in through communion. In that moment, my spiritual eyes were opened first.
I saw it so clearly.
I felt it so deeply.
I believed it so wholeheartedly.
And I fell to my knees in tears, thanking Jesus for the healing in my eye before it even happened.
I wept. Right there on my knees on the floor in my tiny condo. Just me and Jesus.
FOR ME
As one who has studied and taught the tenets of Christianity for over two decades, I realized in that moment how easy it is to believe truths for others and not receive them for myself. On the morning of 8/20/26 … I received my sight … I saw … in the spirit first, followed by healing in the natural.
My BLIND SPOT was knowing He did it FOR YOU, but not fully believing He did it FOR ME.
My eye was healed in that moment, as I “saw” what He did … FOR ME.
After some time, I stood, I looked, and I could see.
In fact, the final lines of this song came AFTER my eye was healed:
“I once was blind, but now I see … I thank my God … He did it for me.”
I produced the song and set the release date for today, Sunday 8/23.
WILL
Sundays are church days for me. I go to church locally, I watch multiple services online, and I just spend the day soaking in worhsip and the Word. But today was different. As I prepared for church, the Lord took me in a different direction.
Let me back this up just a bit …
I recently finished studying the Book of Acts and re-reading my book, “Kindle the Fire.” Occasionally, the Lord will lead me back to something I have written to remind me of a message He gave me. I finished Acts, and I moved on to Romans this week. A few days ago, I started reading my book, “We Will Win This Day Also.” As the Lord would have it, today is Day Two of that book … titled “Will.”
Here’s the irony and importance of what I am sharing …
I don’t normally have a personal devotion time on Sundays, but this morning, the unction was so strong I could not deny it was the Lord. So I delayed church aand sat down with my book and Bible. Keep in mind … “For You” was also released today.
So I had the song on repeat, and I turned to Chapter Two in my book.
The first sentence and paragraph say this:
“Your will be done.
These were the words of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane as He prepared to do the Father’s will. ‘Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me, nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.’ - Luke 22:42”
After finishing that chapter, I opened my Bible to today’s readings - Romans 5 and 6 - which are all about what He did for us.
There is no way, in all of my earthly effort and intention, that I could have planned or orchestrated this journey. It has so impacted me, and changed me, that I knew I had to share it - with the hope that it will speak to your heart in some special way.
Beloved child of God …
He did it FOR YOU.
He died FOR YOU.
My prayer FOR YOU today is that you will LIVE FOR HIM - that you will seek Him with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength. I pray you will know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. I pray you will spend some time in communion with Him, receiving His body and blood in a fresh way. I pray you will know without a doubt that He did it FOR YOU. I pray your blind spots will be healed and your spirit, soul, and body will be made whole. And I pray you will encounter the Lover of your soul like never before, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
