I Say YES
(Written on 8/16/26. Published on 8/22/26.)
I moved away from home when I was 20 years old.
I have lived all over this great land … from NY to FL, the Southeast, the Midwest, TX, and California.
At 31 years old, I got radically saved, and I learned to follow Jesus.
Following Jesus is everything. It is a journey of obedience wrapped in love.
I will not pretend that I have made every move in perfect alignment with His will over the past 21 years, because I have not … but when I mess up, I fix it. When I miss it, I course correct. Through it all, the deepest desire of my heart is to follow Him.
When you hear the voice of God whispering to your inner man - when the Holy Spirit says, “This is the way, walk in it” - following is the best (and only) option. Anything else is disobedience.
I have learned over two decades of walking with Jesus that following Him is not always a cakewalk. I have also learned that “the mission field” is not always overseas. Often, it is the person right in front of you. ←
Let that one sink in for a moment.
If He leads me to Africa to love on orphans, I will go. If He leads me to build water wells in the Solomon Islands, I will go. If He leads me to the marketplace, the grocery store, the town down the road, or back home to visit my family … I will go. Whether I am in Hollywood praying for the entertainment industry, visiting with the homeless, interceding for athletes and influencers to be used by God, working on building my A.R.K., or in my prayer closet crying out to Him for help in some area of my own life, I will follow Him.
From the elite to the street - and everywhere in between - people need Jesus.
I know what it means to board a plane headed to my next assignment in God, leave my family behind, and not know when I will see them again.
I know what it means to be content with plenty and content with lack.
I know what it means to want something to be fixed, healed, or made whole and have to wait on the Lord every moment of every day.
I have learned how to trust God.
I don’t worry because He ALWAYS comes through. I don’t fear because He who lives in me is greater than anything that could come against me. I don’t rush ahead of His plan and timing because … been there, done that … and it doesn’t work out well in the end.
Doing life the wrong way is exactly what helps us learn to do it the right way.
I have known His joy, and I have wept through pain and suffering.
Job said, “The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away … Though He slay me, yet I will trust Him.” (Job 1:21, 13:15)
I trust Him.
The past year of transition in my life has been a ride I did not expect to be on, but I trust Him. He knew I would be on it, and He had a plan all along.
Sometimes we take giant leaps of faith, and sometimes we take baby steps. Both are critical and important.
Sometimes we get it right, and sometimes we royally miss it. And that is also part of growing in God.
Sometimes we travel the world on assignment, and sometimes we look in the eyes of the person across the table from us and walk with them through their trials.
IT ALL MATTERS TO GOD.
I know for sure that we get it really wrong when we imagine than we are better than others, or we are better in God, because of our location, position, bank account, experience, credentials, knowledge, or notoriety.
God cares about the heart.
Read that again.
He cares about how we lean into Him in every season of life, how we love Him and love others, how we serve, how we trust, and how we obey.
Perhaps that leads to great things, but I have learned that greatness looks very different in the eyes of God than it does in the eyes of man.
I know what it feels like to procrastinate in God, to put something off or to resist His plan for some reason (typically uncertainty or insecurity … occasionally doubt or unbelief). That feeling gnaws at the gut. Deep down, we know when we are running or avoiding God. When I sense that, I do my best to make it right immediately because it’s not something I enjoy feeling.
But then there are times when we know that we know that we know … He is with us, we are right on time, and we just have to keep moving forward. →→→
Step by step.
Day by day.
Choice by choice.
Yes by yes.
I sense the season shifting.
I know change is on the horizon.
I feel the drawing to go deeper in prayer.
I am having different conversations and making different plans.
But I will not be so anxious or ready to get to the future that I miss the present.
THIS is the GIFT.
Right HERE.
Right NOW.
I say YES.
