You Were Made To Soar

I have been revisiting a teaching series on Eagles that I shared with young adults at my alma mater, Auburn University, in 2007. War Eagle!

Studying the eagle will AWAKEN the spirit in a special way. There are many Biblical parallels that instruct us on how to live, if we will only pay attention.

🦅 Eagles Teach Us About Life, Faith, and Rising Higher

There is something about an eagle that stops you.

Maybe it is the majestic beauty.
Maybe it is the strength.
Maybe it is the way it moves without effort … yet with undeniable authority.

But what if I told you that the eagle is not just a beautiful bird …

It is a blueprint.

A living, breathing example of how we are meant to live - spirit, soul, and body.

When you begin to study the nature of the eagle, you will see something deeper:

God built lessons into creation.

And the eagle carries some of the most powerful ones.

🦅 Eagles Rise Through Storms, Not Around Them

Eagles do not run from storms.

They use them.

As storm winds rise, the eagle locks its wings and allows the current to lift it higher - above the clouds, above the chaos, above the pressure.

Most birds hide.
The eagle rises.

Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

The storm you are facing is not meant to destroy you.
It is designed to elevate you.

🦅 There Is a Season of Losing Before Renewal

Eagles go through a molting process.

They lose old feathers - sometimes looking weak, exposed, and vulnerable - before new, stronger feathers grow in.

For a time, they cannot fly as they once did.

But it is not the end.
It is preparation.

Psalm 103:5 says, “Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.”

There are seasons in life where things fall away.

Relationships.
Comfort.
Old identities.

It may feel like loss … but it is actually renewal in progress.

🦅 Eagles See What Others Cannot

An eagle’s vision is extraordinary.

It can spot prey from miles away with precision and clarity.

It does not get distracted by what is close - it is focused on what matters.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 says:

“Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.”

Spiritually, this is discernment.

The ability to see beyond the surface.
To recognize truth from a distance.
To stay focused when everything else is competing for your attention.

Not everything deserves your focus.

But your purpose does.

🦅 The Nest Will Be Stirred

When it is time for the young eagle to fly, the mother does something unexpected.

She stirs the nest.

Removes the comfort.
Breaks up the softness.
Even pushes the eaglet out.

And just when it seems like it will fall …
She catches it.

Deuteronomy 32:11 paints this exact picture, “As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings.”

If your life feels uncomfortable right now …
If things feel shaken … disrupted …

It may not be the enemy.

It may be God teaching you to fly.

🦅 Not Everyone Can Go Where You Are Going

Eagles do not fly in flocks like other birds.

They fly alone.

High. Focused. Undistracted.

There is a level of calling that requires separation.

Galatians 1:10 reminds us that we cannot serve both God and the opinions of people, “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Not everyone is meant to go with you.

And that is okay.

Higher requires clarity, not crowds.

🦅 Eagles Know When to Strive and When to Rest

Eagles do not constantly flap their wings.

They glide.

They lock into the current and allow the wind to carry them.

This is WISDOM.

Not every season is for pushing.

Some seasons are for trusting.

Exodus 19:4 says, “I bore you on eagles’ wings…”

There are moments when God does the carrying.

Your role is to stay positioned in the wind.

🦅 Eagles Feed on What Is Alive

Eagles prefer fresh, living prey.

They are not designed to live off of what is dead and decaying.

Neither are you.

John 6:63 says, “The words I speak … they are spirit, and they are life.”

What you consume matters.

Spiritually.
Emotionally.
Physically.

If it is draining you, dulling you, or deadening you …

It is not for you.

🦅 Final Thought: You Were Made To Soar

The eagle does not apologize for how it was made.

It does not try to be like other birds.
It does not shrink to fit lower altitudes.

It rises.

And so can you.

The storms …
The stretching …
The separation …
The renewal …

None of it is random.

It is all part of the design.

You were never created to stay low.

You were created to mount up, to rise, and to soar.

So fly, Eagle, fly.
