Soul Story

The sun was beginning to set over the Santa Rosa Sound. I felt impressed to have dinner by the water - something I have not done before that night. Not long after I sat down to eat, I looked across the water to see a breathtaking sunset. As the light slipped behind a towering cloud, brilliant gold illuminated its edges while the center remained in shadow, creating a scene so glorious that I instinctively reached for my camera.

At first, it was the majesty and beauty that captured me, but as I looked closer, I saw it … a silhouette. The face, the nose, the hair, the beard … and the mouth … with a cross placed strategically inside.

Immediately, the stunning visual had one message for my heart … Preach the Gospel.

As I sat in awe, I knew this was a procalamtion from heaven — a declaration and an invitation. This was a divine encounter that was telling the story of my very own soul. It was reminding me of who I am. As the heavens declared the glory of God that night, the sky was preaching the Gospel without saying a single word.

I became utterly convinced that everything we do for the Kingdom declares His glory. Every act of kindness, every brushstroke, every moment of obedience preaches the Gospel.

But one thing I knew for certain in that moment … we must preach the Gospel. We must use our voices, our God-given authority, to declare to all of creation that Jesus hung on a cross and bore the sins of humanity in His body. He is the Son of God, and because of His sacrifice, our sins are forgiven. We can be made new and live forever with Him if we will simply believe.

Sitting there next to the shore, I was reminded that the Great Commission is not reserved for a stage, a pulpit, or a microphone. Every follower of Christ has been called to carry His light into the world. Sometimes we preach with words. Sometimes we preach through compassion, generosity, forgiveness, faithfulness, and stewardship. A life surrendered to Christ becomes a testimony that points others to Him.

As I watched the light break through the darkness, I couldn't help but think that creation has been proclaiming the glory of God since the beginning. The waves never cease. The wind never grows tired. The heavens continue to declare the majesty of their Creator day after day, without a single spoken word.

My prayer is that this piece encourages you to look beyond the sunset and remember the One who painted it, and I pray you would leave with a renewed desire to let your own life proclaim the hope of the Gospel wherever God leads you.

This photograph was captured on July 11, 2026, during an ordinary summer evening on Navarre Beach, Florida. I didn't go looking for inspiration. I simply followed the quiet prompting to have dinner by the water.

That evening became the beginning of Preach the Gospel and, ultimately, the beginning of my Soul Stories collection.

My prayer is that every piece I create points beyond itself — to the beauty of Christ, the wonder of His creation, and the invitation to know Him more deeply.
